Jakes is a pastor who hosts a weekly television program that airs in the United States, Europe, and South Africa. He speaks a powerful message to women who have lost faith in themselves and seek salvation primarily in their relationships with men. To enjoy healthy relationships, women must first know themselves and value their own gifts and strengths, which they can do by putting God before all other relationships, according to Jake. The contemporary woman has learned to juggle so many roles that she has, of necessity, become a fierce survivor who is too busy to nurture herself. The woman who has suffered abuse or neglect can also learn to love herself with God's healing so that she can break free of the cycle that keeps her in destructive relationships. Jakes explores the vulnerability and expectations of men, pointing out ways men and women can appreciate each other's strengths by understanding their differences. Although Jakes makes a generous allowance, perhaps short of justification, for marital infidelity on the part of men, his intention is to encourage Christian women in general.

An AWESOME book!

Once again, Bishop Jakes has spent time talking with God and relaying it as only he can and in such a way that all can relate and understand. This books looks into the hearts and soul of many women, including myself. Healing is what it's all about...learning how to get beyond and to really be free from those things that hinder us from going forth in this world. Bishop shows us how to balance our lives and achieve this inner peace that we all long for.
I am not married but this book showed me how we as women should treat our husbands. At this point in my life, God is my husband and my Lord. I have learned how to worship and adore God as I would the mate that he will bring into my life. That book is an encouragement in itself in that Bishop Jakes tells us that we can have it all spiritually and emotionally.
I recommend this book to any woman who has a desire to grow and to really know what it means to be whole. I would also encourage all women to attend the Woman, Thou Art Loosed seminar in July. Last year it was breathtaking. This book really follows behind that whole seminar. I thank God for using Bishop Jakes in such a way. Bishop really has a deep compassion for women and for that I am thankful.

Burns images for self-transformation into your mind!

A quick scan of the chapter titles is enough to pull you into this book. Once you begin reading it, you cannot put it down. The author maintains that every woman has three primary relationships: the one with herself, the one with her husband, and the one with her Lord. Before she can reach a state of balance in life, she must have each of these relationships firmly grounded and running smoothly.

A woman cannot establish a relationship with her husband until she has a good relationship with herself. She must feel like a lady in order to project those positive traits that will attract goodness into her life. This manual teaches a woman how to achieve a tranquil inner balance and project positive qualities. It teaches a woman how to create a balance between her three relationships.

This is one of the most powerfully written self-help books that I have found. The analogies are so picturesque that they will remain in your mind long after you finish reading the book. For example, the following statement is from early in the first chapter:
"Sadly, sometimes we place ourselves so far on the back burner that the dreams boil out and leave only a parched pot where once we had personal expectation. When dreams boil out, a scorching heat of stress and anxiety causes the kettle to give a shrill sound before the burning begins. That shrill sound can be heard in our excesses and overindulgences..."

Wow! Can you not picture that? Does it not leave a permanent picture, warning you to take care to not push yourself to the back burner as you work to put others first? The entire book is filled with wonderful analogies like this one. Even if you have trouble remembering what you have read, you will recall the images formed by this book and be able to associate them with their lesson.

The book is composed of 239 pages. It is divided into three sections with a total of 16 chapters. I highly recommend it to all women. The author has a way with words that is sure to inspire. He has written several other books, including Woman, Thou Art Loosed and The Great Investment.

God's Lady!

T.D. Jakes has a way of knowing what women want, and need. With the well received "Woman Thou Art Loosed," and the follow up "Daddy Love His Little Girls," now women everywhere are praising "The Lady, Her Lover and Her Lord!" He knows what women think and offer how we can get what we desire, along with scripturally-based reasons why we don't. His books touch on crucial topics such as, A Woman with Balance (chapter 5) that allows women to see the need for balance in all areas of their lives. The husband, the children, work and God need equal attention to be fruitful. If we become too one sided in our focus then something suffers.
In chapter 9 T.D. Jakes discusses Pillow Talk, where he enlightens us regarding the power of words and how we need to be an encouarging feminine voice that doesn't tear down, but instead learn how to compliment, encourage and build up. T.D. Jakes is saying that while we will all have disagreements, women should never become a nagging presence, but instead a soothing one, reminding the man in her life that she will now and forever support him. He urges us to allow our words to be words of caring and nurture.
Chapter 14 eloquently touched on the topic of Serving the Lord and Making the Money. He reminds us as the bible warns that we cannot serve two masters. Money and career is only an enhancement of our lives and should never become the scope of who we are. God should be the focus of all of our endeavors. I highly recommend this enlightening book for every woman who seeks a deeper understanding of themselves, their spouse and their God. T.D. Jakes is inspirational and gently touches on topics that meet the needs of women everywhere. The Lady Her Lover and Her Lord not only gives us Godly instruction, but also the inside track from T.D. Jakes perspective as a man.

Please, people, review the BOOK, not the price

I read this book, and I loved it just as much as the previous two Virgil Flowers books. He's an interesting detective, and I always like John Sandford's plots. This one was well thought out, and had a strong ending. What I expect from Sandford. Great as always.

But I am TIRED of reading reviews from people that do nothing but complain about the price. If you have a gripe about the price, contact Amazon customer service! Don't give the book a one-star review because you don't like the price. This is a place for BOOK REVIEWS. It is not a forum for launching a protest against Amazon's pricing policies.
These reviews complaining about the price are improper and unfair to the author, and also unfair to fans who may get the wrong impression of the book.

So please, don't be misled by the bad reviews. This is an excellent read. If you don't like the price, then wait for the paperback.

Consistently Well Written and Entertaining

Sandford's novels are always first rate, and reading them in chronological order, you get a real sense of his growth as a writer. I put him in the same category as Michael Connelly, and two of my top favorites who are no longer with us, Robert B. Parker and Vince Flynn. The plots are gripping without being far fetched, the protagonists are tough, smart, and slightly flawed, and the "bad guys" become all too real, so much so that you're glad to see the story end with their just reward.

Rough Country Hits It!

I've got to say that Virgil really grows on you. The action and twists kept me guessing the entire time. I couldn't put it down. I've liked Virgil since Invisible Prey, (back then I wondered what kind of a name was Virgil Flowers for a hippy-type cop?) his laid-back manner and his aversion to guns. That's so funny for a cop in his position to not like guns the way he does. I've always liked the Prey novels and John Sandford's really done it up right again. Each Virgil Flower's offering keeps getting better. Although, I felt a little sorry for Virgil at the end of Rough Country. I won't elaborate for spoiler sake. But come on! Didn't he suffer enough in the line of duty? Isn't the hero supposed to get a little something in the end? It was an excellent read all the way around. If John will keep writing them, I'll keep reading them!

Everything comes to a head in Las Vegas on Super Bowl Sunday, and there's loads of action and double-crossing. The problem is that the center of it all, Raygene, is a very dim bulb, and not even a very likable one. But the pace is fast and the plot suitably outrageous.

Reece Germaine is a tough PR agent, pregnant from a weekend fling, battling football star Raygene Price for child support. But Raygene needs money himself--he's being blackmailed by a former buddy, a "wannabe-black white boy" and genuine psycho. The maguffin is a betting slip Reece holds, a wager financed by Raygene that will pay $1.25 million if the long-shot team can win one more game--the Super Bowl. They converge on Las Vegas to fight for the ticket, joined by battling bodyguards and Aeneas Charles, a private investigator hired by Raygene's agent to keep the footballer out of trouble. While the multicar pileup the author engineers for the ending isn't completely convincing, it's still a pleasure to see him give professional sports the same roughing up he gave Hollywood. Keir Graff

darker side of American professional sports

Entertainment public relations specialist Reece Germaine and professional football star Raygene Price shared a tight wild weekend in Vegas. Raygene, a Dallas Cowboy player, bets $25,000 on the Arizona Cardinals winning the Superbowl at 50-1 odds. He gives the ticket to Reece as a seduction sweetener and because as a player he is not allowed to bet on the games.
Now eight months later Reece is pregnant from that tryst and Raygene refuses any involvement including child support as this situation is not new to him. Besides his finances are a disaster, he has impregnated other women. However the improbable is that the longshot Cardinals are playing in the Superbowl on Sunday so that if they win, Reece will forget child support and run with the 1.25 million. Others vicious people want a piece of Raygene?s hide and that wager would make a fine down payment.
FIRECRACKER is quite exciting while showing the darker side of American professional sports. Paraphrasing LBJ, the irresponsible and unlikable Raygene seems like he played football without a helmet and the prime thug acts like his brain tripped and never recovered. The wild Superbowl weekend is vividly described and Reece is a solid heroine whose efforts to keep safe (ask the drunk she knocks out with a punch) and retain the ticket is fun to follow, but Raygene, not her, is the center anchoring the story line and he fails to stop the sacking of the plot.

Pro sports caper fast-paced and twisty

Gar Anthony Haywood, author of the superb P.I. Aaron Gunner series, used the pen name Ray Shannon to write FIRECRACKER. This story centers on Raygene Price, a superstar playing for the Dallas Cowboys. Contract negotiations are coming up, and Raygene has to keep his nose clean or else the NFL will exhile him. Reece Germaine is pregnant with his child and seeks support payments. Raygene balks. But Reece has a betting slip for the Super Bowl and a shot to win 1.25 million dollars in a payout if her team wins. Shannon moves around a large cast of complex characters (including Raygene's God-fearing body guard), and the boisterous climax in Las Vegas over the Super Bowl weekend is probably spot on. Well-written, deftly executed, and convincing dialogue, FIRECRACKER favorably compares to NORTH DALLAS FORTY and SEMI TOUGH.

Shannon's latest is a no nonsense fast-paced story sure to attract more fans. You get twists and turns as well as a fun ride through Vegas. A highly enjoyable novel.
I have to question the authors knowledge about football in reference to one glaring mistake towards the end. Lets see who's keen enough to catch it.
Highly recommended.

This is NOT a Tom Clancy book - complete fraud

I'm a huge Tom Clancy fan and anxiously awaited his new book. However its quite clear that this is not written by Clancy, and he has just lent his name to a moneymaking exercise.

Its a thriller, and I guess its ok. But its certainly not a Tom Clancy book. Its let down in the details which Clancy always gets right. For example in the book a drug dealer lets someone shoot him with a .45 to test out a bulletproof coat, and he barely notices the impact. In the real world the kinetic impact would break his ribs. In another chapter a navy seal picks up two pistols and runs at his enemies firing them two handed, something counter to every military tactic known.

In numerous little details the author gets it wrong, where Clancy consistently gets it right. For this reason I doubt very much if Clancy even proofread the thing before adding his name to it.

In character development, plot development... its average. Not bad, its certainly readable, but pure garbage.

I wish I had 3 thumbs so I could give it 3 thumbs down

Tom Clancy did not write this poor-quality work.

I made it to page 2 before seeing proof that this is another non-Clancy work. Here's a part of a sentence describing the Pakistan Special Service Group: (it isn't dialogue)
"...an organization similar to the U.S. Navy SEALs, but, ahem, their operators were hardly as capable."

'Ahem'? Amongst non-dialogue description in a book not written in any 1st-person narrative? C'mon. I stopped reading at page 14, and I'm returning the purchase.

I'm sure it might be an entertaining read for some, but it's obviously a low-quality work written by an author who writes the fictional equivalent of B-movies. I worked at a Border's for five years, ending in 2006, and I'd never even heard of Peter Telep until now. The entire Los Angeles Public Library System only shows two other titles of his, written in '95, and '99, neither of which I'd ever heard of.
According to Telep's blurb on the book jacket, we're supposed to believe that this is Tom Clancy collaborating with an author who's works include "science fiction, fantasy, military action/adventure, and medical drama, and film, television, and video game tie-ins."
Seriously?

ATTN ALL CLANCY FANS: Save yourself the curiosity. This item would be a waste of money.

What a mistake

I have been a Tom Clancy Fan since I first read Red Storm Rising. Over the years I quickly read all of the Jack Ryan novels, many of them multiple times. I can even say that I didnt mind Dead or Alive. Now to Against All Enemies. I knew that it was a collaberation when I bought it. Once I started reading the first chapter I realized that Tom Clancy had nothing to do with the writing of this book. The style is very different, there is none of the descriptive writing that is Clancy's style. The writing in fact is very poor and vague.

For fans out there that are on the fence, if you are buying the book for the plot line, then thats fine. If you are buying it with the hope that the book is in any shape or form Tom Clancy, dont waste your money. If you are at the bookstore undecided, grab a copy with a quick starbucks, and read the first chapter and make your decision then.

Her hero, Ethan, is a wealthy, handsome cowboy and a brilliant lawyer who loves poetry, the only culturally aware person in his tiny, mean-spirited Kansas enclave. Katie Ann is much younger than Ethan, and much crasser, but their liaison seems just right for the circumstances until a neighbor dies and her beautiful and cosmopolitan daughter, Annette, arrives to attend her funeral. Annette managed to escape the incessant wind and indigenous obsession with cattle to become a world-famous concert violinist based in Paris. No one knows anything about her ghoulishly (and wildly improbable) tragic past, and only a few people, most notably Ethan, are pleased by her decision to stick around. And so the love triangle is in place: sensitive cowboy falls for gorgeous musician; fiancee goes berserk. But here's where Graham goes for broke. Determined to keep her man, Katie Ann plays the oldest trick in the book and tells him she's pregnant, then nature erupts in protest against this travesty of true love: the prairie bursts into flames; key characters die; and Graham pretends to get gothic. One of the Best to Remember

I loved this story. I've read it several times through the years and still cry every time. I read at least 70-80 books a month and always go back to my favs'- this is a definite go to book. Read it and trust that the story is unique and a page turner.

Finally, Romancing the Soul - Love Never Really Dies

Its surprising that some readers hated this story. What's not to like? The beginning may slowly build up speed, but deep in the plot, the reader appreciates the character development. At first Firebird appears common to other romances- Man agrees to marry under pressure; A new face in town piques his interest AFTER the engagement is announced. Then watch out - a plot twist is about to blow your mind! I didn't see it coming and couldn't believe what I had just read. From there the hits just kept on coming. The plot winds through a labirynth of twists and turns like a serpentine roller coaster ride. The reader is swept along never knowing where the next drop or derailment may be. I have searched for years to find a book I simply could not put down. Firebird was worth the wait. I read it through the first night. I simply had to know how this story could possibly find resolution. Firebird courts the heart and soul. This is Miss Graham's debut novel, hopefully the first of many to come.

Exquisitely Written

This the most exquisitely written book I have read in a long time. The author's understanding of human nature allows her to open us to the characters' hearts and share their joys and anguish. A well-written plot and satisfying ending. This book will stay in my mind for a long time.

Charming, honest, and as loveable as MTM herself

Wonderful book; I hated to get to the end. MTM was one of my earliest TV heroes for her gutsy and athletic performances on the Dick Van Dyke show and, later, her own Mary Tyler Moore show. Somehow she always managed to bring out the best talents of those around her while also maintaining her own sparkling presence. That iconic moment when she threw her cap in the air (intro to the MTM Show) symbolized so much for me. So it was with some trepidation that I picked up her autobiography: would I lose my hero? Not a chance.

Charmingly written with a really authentic tone (she describes some childhood bullies as "little s***s" which caused me to laugh out loud and scare my dogs), the book delivers in a truly satisfying way: anecdotes about TV personalities, behind the scenes info about all her shows and movies, intimate glances into her private joys, sorrows, and alcohol-fueled self-isolation, the unbearable tragedy of her son's death, her difficult recovery, and her late romance.

Mary's personality shines through it all, and the immediacy was such that I felt like I was having a chat with a best friend. Overall a lovely book from a grand lady who has suffered and shone through like the star she is.

A little short and unfulfilling, but still a nice trip through her life

An autobiography about actress Mary Tyler Moore. Best known for her two TV roles as wife Laura Petrie on the Dick Van Dyke Show and Mary Richards on the Mary Tyler Moore Show. And there in lies the problem. When its not focusing on those two aspects of her life, the book is a bit of a let down.

Too many books by actors and former TV stars seem to go this path. They reel you in with the fact that you want to learn all about their experiences and time working on the show or movie or part of entertainment that made them famous. So of course you have to go through the history of how they got their first break and what growing up was like. All expected and its all here as well. She talks of her parents and where she grew up and siblings.

Her first big break and moving to Hollywood and her various marriages that she had throughout her time writing the book in the late 1990's are all mentioned here too. But when its talking of these things, they just seem like small blurbs and little anecdotes that don't really lead anywhere is the problem. Its so self focused but not really interesting enough to captivate the reader is the thing.

Then it finally gets to her time on the Dick Van Dyke Show. Her first big break when she lands the part of the wife to star of the show Dick Van Dyke himself, and the rest as they say is history. But when we finally get to this point of the book, its just as disappointing as so many other autobiographies. She will give a bit of a snip-it of some moment that occurred during an episode. Or her opinion of one of the episodes and really leave it at that. Five years of her life on a very popular and iconic show and it seems to be narrowed down to just a few short moments before its back to her trials and tribulations as she dates Grant Tinker or fails at Broadway.

Even when she talks of moments from the Dick Van Dyke show they seem a bit slanted to her vantage point. There are other books that have talked about the show in detail and all have a similar telling of how she walked out during the starting stages of the episode where she gets her foot stuck in a faucet. It was very chaotic and hectic and she was furious with the show's creator Carl Reiner for having her off camera for most of the episode. And left the set and had to be talked back into coming back and she said things she regretted. Well if you go by Mary's version of the story, you would think it was just some minor moment of her being mad and coming back after she cooled off and not at all how it really went down if you go by others telling of the same exact situation.

She talks of the most famous episode with the walnuts but it didn't seem relevant as it was just retelling what everyone already knew of the situation having nothing to do with her experiences with it. You never get anything juicy or interesting or deep though when it came to her experiences on this show. She mentions that she and Rose Marie were rivals as they were both the top females on the show and didn't get along. But she quickly side steps it all by claiming that they moved past it and laugh about it so many years later. Well I for one would have more loved to hear about some of the arguments and fights and disagreements they had. Not just a quick mention of problems and then telling us not to worry, its all good now.

And its more of the same when she talks of her own TV show of the Mary Tyler Moore show. She really very seldom talks of her co stars or experiences on the show. We learn nothing of what she felt of with the actors she was working with besides that she loved them dearly and that Ted Knight hated being thought of as a buffoon in real life due to the part he was playing. She quotes the famous scene from the opening pilot episode and mentions that Ed Asner did a retake and nailed it on the second try. And again that is all we hear on it. You are busy reading short chapter after short chapter and somewhere in the middle of it she mentions the show ends and moves on to the next uninteresting subject.

I guess I was hoping for more of her experiences as these iconic characters rather than her dealings with her husbands, family and own self doubts when things weren't coming easy after her two hit shows ended. Which is the usual way it goes for most actors and actresses after they leave their hit show and age a bit. They usually don't recapture that same magic the next time around.

The future shows she did get quick mentions and are burryed in a chapter as a paragraph or two somewhere. You do feel her pain and fear and all the emotions she went through with every up and down. From winning awards to flopping on shows and the loss of her son. You do get in touch with what she is going through. But if I was on not one, but two successful TV shows that both had long runs and continue to wow audiences to this day, you would think the bulk of the book would be about those experiences rather than just sorta being more filler than substance when dealing with said shows.

Mary Tyler Moore is a wonderful person who is really just that, a person. Not the parts she played on TV but a real life person who fears the same things we do. Deals with the same sorrows that other mothers and woman do and you generally see a nice person who is glad she got the break she got and can be humbled too when things don't always go the way they had. I still don't feel like I know her though and this book is now a bit dated as it was written before the 21st Century appeared.

Overall, its a quick read and has some interesting parts. But a lot of parts that just don't really come off as more than filler and fluff. I think fans of her growing up on her iconic TV shows may be a bit disappointed by how little time she focuses on her time on these shows. She mentions her co stars very minimally. Her memories on the shows just as little and while her life may be interesting to her, people are reading this to learn more about her memories in said shows and moments as well as the rest of her life around it. It was the other way around with one marriage story after another after another. Another Hollywood star that goes through marriages like trying on hats.

I hoped for better but still enjoyed learning the little bit I did about her life and experiences. Some will like it more than others, just didn't do it for me. I have read some autobiographies that really go into detail of what I wanted to hear. This book wasn't that sadly. I learned more about her from a book about the Dick Van Dyke show than I did from her own book honestly.

Disappointed

As a fan expecting a personal, if not detailed, autobiography of MTM, I came away very disappointed. Most of all, the relationships with Grant Tinker and other husbands/family members were covered at a very matter-of-fact and not intimate level. Most certainly, writing such a treatment is certainly MTM's right, but I came away feeling almost as having read a third-person biography rather than a first-person account of a fascinating life and career.

New Orleans has been the favorite setting for so many mystery series (I stopped counting after two dozen) that it could easily become just another colorful crutch. But in his fourth book about lawyer Tubby Dubonnet, Tony Dunbar artfully turns the location on its head. A major character emerges from a huge rainstorm that drowns the city and threatens to wash out its entire Mardi Gras celebration. Tubby, who starts the book short of money, work, and self-esteem, literally rises--along with the water level--to the occasion. He loses a client in the flooded streets; shares a hotel room with a friendly, slightly larcenous female tourist from Chicago; and then stumbles on a trio of bank robbers whose agenda is linked to an old New Orleans property swindle. By showing the damage that a couple of days of rain can cause to the city's fragile ecosystem, Dunbar makes us really care about its fate. The same can be said about our feelings for Tubby: he's a lazy, corner-cutting, slightly shabby, occasionally reckless but decent man who turns out to be much more than a passing tourist attraction. It's Fat Tuesday in the Big Easy. Businesses are closing early to give everyone a leg up on the festivities. For LaRue and his two henchmen, it's a good day for a bank robbery. The caper goes well, but while the trio is in the bank, the city is overwhelmed with a torrential downpour. Power is out, and even the cobblestone streets of the French Quarter are submerged. LaRue and company make their getaway in a confiscated canoe, but they panic and shoot a woman who tries to get in the canoe with them. The victim was lawyer Tubby Dubonnet's client, and though Tubby's not too tough, he's tenacious--so much so that he and his friend Marguerite eventually wind up as hostages while LaRue plots his escape. The fourth Dubonnet novel traces the same tongue-in-cheek path as its predecessors. It's packed with local color, whimsy, and witty dialogue, though with a dark edge. A good series that gets better with each entry. Wes Lukowsky

A teaser...don't waste your time

A few authors like to introduce a story with a "teaser" book like this one. The story was moderately entertaining but was simply a "chapter" in what might have been a excellent book. The reader is left with no conclusion (other than Mr. Dunbar's thinly veiled desire to have us purchase the next "chapter").

If authors don't have the time or interest in finishing a story, don't bother to publish what you've done to date...it hurts your reputation and makes readers reluctant to read another of your works. I, for one, have put Mr. Dunbar on my "don't bother" list...this was the first and last of his works I'd consider.

Almost 5 stars, until the lack of an ending!

The first 90% of this book was great, then the author apparently got tired of writing and left both his readers and his characters suspended in time and space.

Prior to this review I've had nothing bad to say about this series, and most of this book was excellent. It has New Orleans in all of its Mardi Gras glory, a great story, great and unusual characters. There were a hundred possible ending that would made this literally a masterpiece, but no the author feels so insecure about his book he has to leave his ending for a future book. Sort of like he ran out of inspiration and only had one good story left in him, so he spread it over two books which is what no talent wannabes often do. I never purchase the second half of a book unless it is clear going in that the book is in two parts.

The real shame here is outside of this half book, Tony Dunbar was becoming one of my favorite authors, but he lost me forever!

This was like reading a chapter in a detective story, no end, just prepare you to buy the next installment. I enjoyed the first book in the series, this one not so much. This kind of turns me off, I will not buy the next book in the series.
