About the Author
Frank Herbert was born in Tacoma, Washington, and educated at the University of Washington, Seattle. He worked a wide variety of jobs--including TV cameraman, radio commentator, oyster diver, jungle survival instructor, lay analyst, creative writing teacher, reporter and editor of several West Coast newspapers--before becoming a full-time writer. He died in 1986.

My favorite

Heretics of Dune surpasses the others in this series, so far (which are all excellent novels), for several reasons. 1)Herebert continues to develop the huge universe he started on the planet Arakis in the first book to an almost unsurpassed depth and yet it connects with all the other novels. 2)Heretics of Dune has enough twists and turns to keep a mystery reader satisfied. 3)Heretics is a drama with characters I cared about by the end of the story. 4)Herbert moves the action along to a fevered pitch while exploring ethics, theology, politics, psychology, manipulation, and sex through the experiences of his characters. So far, this is the crowning achievment of Herbert's writings I have read.
